Baked Sriracha & Soy Wings

Alright guys… Y’all know how obsessed I am with hot wings. I’ve decided to share my recipe for these tasty baked sriracha & soy hot wings! These wings are perfect for game day (Super Bowl is just around the corner) with a perfect blend of sweetness and spiciness.

I have been on the hunt for the perfect home-made hot wing recipe for the longest time. Slowly, I have perfected this recipe. I’ve found a way to mimic the crispiness that you get from fried wings.

I start out with fresh chicken wings from my local meat market. I prefer wings that have never been frozen. However, frozen wings from the grocery store will work. Just make sure that they are fully thawed before you cook them. A good rule of thumb is 1lb per person. (1lb = 10-12 wings).

Preheat your oven to 425 degrees. This high temperature helps to make the wings crispy.

I totally forgot to take a picture of this next step. However, it is probably one of the most important steps in order to end with a perfectly crispy wing.

Par boil the wings in salted water for 10-12 minutes. This will allow some of the fat to cook down. Fatty chicken wings will not crisp up in the oven like we want.

After the wings have boiled. Remove from heat and pat dry.

Next, we are going to toss the wings in a very small amount of olive oil. This is really going to help the wing reach the optimum level of crispiness!

Spread the wings out on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. The parchment paper will prevent the wings from sticking to the baking sheet. Then season with a little salt and pepper.

Bake the wings for 30-40 mins. The time will depend on your particular oven.

While the wings are baking I make the sauce.

Combine:

1/3 cup honey

2 tablespoons of soy sauce

2 tablespoons of sriracha sauce

Thats all!

Once the wings are cooked throughout and have started to crisp remove from oven. Now turn on your broiler.

Toss the baked wings with the sauce that you just made. Be generous.

Arrange the sauced wings back on a baking sheet and place under preheated broiler.  Keep an eye on the wings to be sure that they do not burn. The high heat from the broiler will reduce the sugar in the sauce. This will also add the the level of crispiness that we are looking for.

I like to sprinkle toasted sesame seeds over the top to complete the dish.

Finally, enjoy your delicious home-cooked Sriracha & soy hot wings.

Don’t be less than smart!

That’s it folks… 2016 has come and gone. At the moment that the clock stroke midnight  on the last day of 2016, were you be able to say the you owned 2016?  Now, I don’t mean owned in the sense that everything was perfect. However, in the sense that you’re not allowing any moment or life lesson that took place throughout 2016 to own (or hold power over) you. Lets be honest… life is NEVER perfect, or at least I haven’t met someone that led a perfect year without their fair share of bruises. We win some and we lose some, plain and simple. Life is imperfect. Understanding that is one of the first steps to owning 2016.

Here are 12 Little Life Lessons that I learned throughout 2016

1. Learn to say “No’

Trust me. I know how difficult it can be to say no to someone. I’ve always been the person that gave 120%. However, over this past year I’ve really come to the point where I had to stop and reevaluate whether the sacrifice was benefiting me or the person I was going above and beyond for.

2.Trust your gut

I always tell myself and friends, “Don’t be less than smart” . The idea behind the statement comes from my belief that each and every one of us has experienced enough in life to know whats really going on. In every situation there are always more than one option.. it is your duty to yourself to chose the option that aligns the most with your goals and aspirations . Don’t be less than smart in 2017

3. Invest in experiences

2016 has thought me to invest in experiences  and moment. Whether it be with friends or just a solo moment to ground yourself. You don’t even have to spend any of your hard earned cash to do this. Just remember that the memories that you will make will alway retain their value.

4. Classic vs Trends

Being an individual that LOVES fashion. You better believe that I struggle with over shopping lol – However, over the last year I have decided that personally I will invest more hard earned cash into classic pieces that will stay with me throughout many fashion seasons. Yes, its ok to splurge on that really chic but trendy sweater that was in Coach Fall 2016 runway collection… but is it going to prove its value over the next few seasons?

5. Take that calculated  risk

Trust me.. we’ve all been there. That situation where you’re just not sure which path to take. I say, evaluate the risk and reward and then go from there. In life there will be times where were just have to take that leap of faith, knowing that we did your due diligence and know the potential outcome. It’s ok to take a calculated risk in 2017! Just don’t be less than smart! lol

6. Get organized

Ok. I know this will either bring me success or failure in the New Year. While juggling College, work, and my company throughout 2017 a great organizational system is key! There are a lot of great mobile apps that help people stay organized. I prefer the old-school version of a classic day planner where I can manage all the aspects of my life. I found this Planner Pad version that I use and LOVE! It accommodates all of the various aspects of my crazy busy life!

7. Count your blessings

Over the next year I encourage all of you to daily count your blessings. Trust me, I know what it feels like to have your world crashing down around you. However, remember that even though things aren’t going just like we would like them to, there are so many people out in this world that would love to have it as “easy” as you do. Just keep that in mind. I know that I daily have to remind myself how lucky I am to have the family, friend, and life that I live.

8. Family

At the end of the day Family  are the ones that you can can’t on.  Throughout my life and 2016 I’ve realized that family are the ones that stick by your side throughout the good times and bad times. Family doesn’t have to be blood – in the same breath… don’t be fooled, even “family”doesn’t always have your back. Don’t be less than smart in 2017. Give all that you can give of yourself. In one way or another you will find a blessing in return.

9. Experience your emotions

For anyone that knows me, they know that I’m not the type of person that really share any deep emotion. Thats just who I am. I’m definitely a extremely private person. However, I’ve reached the point in 2016 where I can to the conclusion  that we are ALL entitled to our own emotions. We all have the right to feel how ever we want to feel about a situation. Now… don’t get it twisted. Just because you feel a particular way doesn’t make you right. We are all different and we all experience things differently – thats what makes this world so great! Diversity.

10. Try it, even if it’s just once

So many of us are scared to try something new. Trust me I’ve experienced the same emotion. I’ve made the commit to myself to try as many new thing through out 2017 that I can. If I’m going to a restaurant I’m going to try that new dish that I normally wouldn’t try. Take a chance on a date your normally wouldn’t be inclined to go on. Take the longer way to work sometime… who knows what might come of it, right?

11. Learn and grow

One of this most important lessons that I think I can take into 2017 is to be come more open to criticism. Now when I say criticism, I’m taking about constructive criticism. Anytime someone has a critic of something I said or did, I make an effort to reevaluate my actions and decide what parts of the criticism that I need to take ownership of. I alway say to take criticism with a grain of salt… criticism can come from many different places and we need to be able to decipher where its coming from and and how it can help develop us into better people.

12. Learn to love alone time.

How can I offer anything of significance to someone, if I can’t even offer the same to myself…. Throughout 2017 I challenge all of you to learn to love who you are. The good, the bad, and the ugly. Were not perfect, no one is. However, when we take ownership of all that we are NO ONE can ever use it against you. Also, when you truly love who you are you have so much more to give to someone else. Respect your self worth and NEVER underestimate your strength. Learn to fully love all that you are in 2017!

I wish you all an amazing NEW YEAR!!!!

Thank you again for joining me on this journey of living and growing throughout 2017
